Pilgimage Walk
To honour Shinzan's life and teaching, we are organising a walking pilgrimage from the source of the Thames (near Kemble in Gloucestershire) along the Thames Path, finishing at our Dojo in Camberwell. The pilgrimage will begin on 27th May, on the anniversary date and finish around 7th June, covering a total distance of about 160 Miles with an average of around 15 miles per day. This is not intended as an endurance challenge, but as a form of sustained walking meditation practice — carrying the spirit of zazen into movement.
Participation is open and flexible: You may choose to join for a single day, several days, or the entire pilgrimage.
What to expect
In terms of accommodation, we are currently working towards to arrange safe and secure overnight spaces along the route. These are likely to be very basic, and may include churches, community halls, and, where appropriate, simple outdoor camping. Two of our Zen teachers will complete the whole walk, and so at no point will any participants be on their own.
Please get in touch with us if you’d like to join the walk and we’ll send you the latest information.
